CIDLIS is the one annual event at which practitioners, educators, and scholars interested in issues of diversity, inclusion,  rights, and justice in LIS can gather to learn, share, and network, CIDLIS has grown in five years to now draw attendees from across the United States and Canada, as well as from Europe and Asia. Last year’s conference had more 220 attendees and it was actively followed on Twitter using #CIDLIS2015. We anticipate the attendance at this year’s event will be even larger.

UMD Disability Summit

Join us for the UMD Disability Summit: Activism and Advocacy in the Academy on April 8th, 2016 at the University of Maryland. The focus of the Summit is on the ways in which academic research and education can improve the lives of people with disabilities. Students, faculty, and staff of the University as well as anyone else in the community, other schools, government agencies, and non-profits interested in innovative research and teaching related to disability are welcome to attend.

2015 James Partridge Outstanding African American Information Professional Award

Presented by the College of Information Studies at the University of Maryland and the Citizens for Maryland Libraries, the 2015 James Partridge Outstanding African American Information Professional Award honors the unsung members of the library profession who contribute greatly but who are often behind the scenes and not publicly recognized for their important contributions to librarianship and the library community.

2015 Conference on Inclusion and Diversity in Library & Information Science (CIDLIS) - Oct. 15 - 16

The 2015 Conference on Inclusion and Diversity in Library and Information Science (CIDLIS) is now accepting registrations and submissions. The conference (known in past years as the Symposium on Diversity in LIS Education) focuses on issues of diversity, inclusion, and information access in library and information professions. It will be held at the University of Maryland on October 15 and 16, 2015.

Symposium on Diversity in LIS Education - April 11, 2014

The University of Maryland’s College of Information Studies, Maryland’s iSchool and the Information Policy and Access Center (iPAC) will host the Symposium on Diversity in LIS Education on April 11, 2014, at the University of Maryland, College Park campus. This event is free and open to the public, and it is supported by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS).

Symposium on Diversity in LIS Education

On Thursday November 8th & Friday November 9th 2012 the Symposium on Diversity in LIS Education will provide focused discussion on preparing all LIS students to be ready to design and deliver inclusive services to diverse populations in the Information Age. This event is free and open to the public, and will be hosted at the University of Maryland College Park in College Park, MD. Talks and panels include – Changing demographics of library patrons; Designing academic programs for cultural competency; Recruiting diverse student populations to MLS programs; Funding diversity-related academic programs.
