At the 14th Annual International Conference on Digital Government (dg.o 2013), Dr. John Carlo Bertot is presenting on Big Data and E-government: Issues, Policies, and Recommendations. The paper is co-authored with Dr. Heeyon Choi, who served as a visiting scholar with the Information Policy & Access Center during 2012-2013 and is with the Korean Institute for Science & Technology Information (KISTI). The paper explores how Big Data can foster collaboration; create real-time solutions to challenges in agriculture, health, transportation, and more; and usher in a new era of policy- and decision-making. The paper further explores, however, a range of policy challenges to address regarding Big Data, including access and dissemination; digital asset management, archiving and preservation; privacy; and security in the US context.
