Too often we hear about the problems in the American education system with few innovative ideas to change the situation. Project leaders June Ahn and Mega Subramaniam are questioning these assumptions and challenging kids to engage with STEM in an innovative environment through a project called (sci-dentity.umd.edu) Sci-Dentity.

To answer these questions, an interdisciplinary team has come together that include researchers in the fields of education, school librarianship, human-computer interaction, gamification and ethics. For the last year and a half, this team has developed innovative lessons and an online portal, sci-dentity.org, to encourage urban middle school students to explore integrating STEM into narrative storytelling through writing, visual media, videos and game design in afterschool sessions with participating school librarians.
